We invited a musician to Our House for African drumming. The children were totally engaged with the music and they got to play drums too. Our nursery teacher Lynn, who is from Africa, came in traditional dress. The children enjoyed this fun cultural experience.
Our unit on dental health last year was so successful. The children learned all about how to care for their teeth and had fun doing it too. We are planning to have the dentist come for another visit to talk to the children about their teeth. It is so important to teach children about dental health at an early age so they will have good dental hygiene. More information is coming.
The health of your children at our centre is our top priority. On May 22 the immunisation people will be coming to the centre to give flu shots to your child. More information will be coming closer to the date
We hope you are all refreshed from the holiday break. Our House staffers are already hard at work with plans and projects that will make 2018 the best early childhood experience for your child that it can be. Our House is a boutique centre and we pride ourselves on our warmth and family feel that makes us stand out from all the rest. At Our House we treat your child as if they are our child. Be sure to take a moment to chat with our friendly staff. We look forward to watching your child flourish!
On Nov. 1, 2017, each of the Our House children will be getting a free dental checkup. In preparation we are teaching the children good lessons about oral health. Help your child get into good dental hygiene habits while having fun
In the nursery recently we have been focused on extending our independence skills. Due to interests from several children we have also been working on identifying our colours. We have supported this goal through experiences such as blocks, playdough, painting, cars, books and songs. We have also been introducing a little bit of technology and it’s uses to the children in the past week. The children have been very interested in the books, the colour and animal books in particular. We have expanded on this interest by reading one of our animal stories and then going back through the book using the iPad to look up the animals and listen to and look at them on youtube. The toddler room has been busy exploring sensory skills with many different activities Such as coloured rice, shaving cream, water play and play dough. The children have also been involved in the outdoors including making sand cakes which has been an ongoing activity. The children then extend on this by involving themselves with their educator in cooking banana muffins, which we all ate for afternoon tea. In the up and coming weeks the toddlers will be focusing on counting shapes and colours.
