In the nursery recently we have been focused on extending our independence skills. We have had both general room goals as well as individual goals that we have been encouraging and supporting the children to meet. A few of our current goals have been the children washing their own hands in the bathroom as well as scraping their bowls into the bin and then packing their cutlery and drink bottles away.

Due to interests from several children we have also been working on identifying our colours. We have supported this goal through experiences such as blocks, playdough, painting, cars, books and songs.

We have also been introducing a little bit of technology and it’s uses to the children in the past week. The children have been very interested in the books, the colour and animal books in particular. We have expanded on this interest by reading one of our animal stories and then going back through the book using the iPad to look up the animals and listen to and look at them on youtube.

Could we please also remind our parents to please pack at least one extra full set of clothing (pants, singlet, shirt, socks and jumper).

Could we also please ask for a family photo be sent in as we are setting up our new family tree. The photo can be emailed, brought in or, if you would like it back, we can photocopy it and send it straight back home, thank you.

Recent Educational Improvements

One of the milestones for your child is to be able to do things for themselves, such as serving food, putting their things away in their bags, etc. This teaches competence and responsibility. Be on the lookout for improvements in your child’s development in these areas.

Four Year old Funded Program

Four year old funded kinder is the first crucial step in your child’s learning. Attending a regular kinder program will help your child to develop skills that will lay the foundation for their future in school. Kinder builds resilience and confidence in your young child. All this plays a significant role in development of their writing and communication skills. Your child needs to be 4 years old by the 30th of April the year before he or she attends school to be enrolled. Our House runs a funded kinder program everyday from 8.30-4.30 with Cameron who has his Bachelor of Education.

Director’s News

Your Child’s Early Education – Why is it so important? At Our House, we understand how crucial early education is for your child. Parents are often busy. Nevertheless, we encourage you to have a look at the educator’s and children’s learning and reflection books. When you do you will be delighted to see that we don’t let your child just play. The Victorian Framework was established to support children’s learning and development. These are known as the 5 outcomes and the 8 practise principles. Research has shown that through a play based program children learn more by stimulating the brain for more inspired learning. This includes intentional teaching (from the educators themselves) in our program which is age appropriate. Through fun and stimulating activities your child learns things like the alphabet, colours, shapes, etc. and their world around them.

Group Time

The pre-kinder have started with group time in the morning. They start their day learning the day of the week, the weather outside, and what we are doing for the day. This week we have been concentrating on the Letter “A” and activities surrounding “A”. The children have been very interested to learn through this innovative method.

Improving our Programmes

Coming into the New Year we have spent the time improving the programmes for our families so their children can have an age appropriate learning. As you have seen through dropping your children off, that the 4 year old funded program is purely for 4 years only. Kinder is such an important year for your child as they make their journey to school. I spent the start of the week rearranging the 3 year old room for better experiences and to challenge them more. The 2‘s are working more towards self-help skills.
